The name TRIO has several meanings:

  • The mix: brasero, plancha, barbecue
  • It comes in 3 separate and sturdy parts that need to be superimposed . No assembly required.
  • In 2020, when COEO was launched and the model was created, we were three childhood friends with different backgrounds.

For a fire pit, prefer a dry untreated wood (oak, beech, hornbeam) for a beautiful flame, pleasant heat and, when cooking, natural aromas. If your fire pit is used for the griddle or barbecue, quality charcoal is ideal for a stable and controlled heat. Avoid treated woods, wet resinous woods or waste, which produce too much smoke and can be harmful.

The difference between a fire pit and a barbecue lies in their main function and their use.

barbecue is primarily designed for the cooking of food, usually on a grill, with the aim of controlling cooking and heat. Thefire pit, on the other hand, is originally an outdoor hearthintended to create aambient warmth and a gathering point around the fire. The plancha fire pits go further by combining heat, design, and wood-fired cooking, offering both the friendly experience of fire and the performance of a cooking appliance. The fire pit then becomes a versatile tool, where the barbecue remains primarily focused on cooking.

Discover here our tips onhow to easily light a fire pit.

The choice between around fire pitand asquare fire pitdepends on both theuseand thethermal outputsought.

Theround fire pitis the most common: it ensures ahomogeneous distribution of heat, a smoother combustion, and a natural conviviality around the fire, ideal forcooking and atmosphere. Thesquare fire pit, focuses more on thedesign, but often offers a less regular heat distribution. For effective cooking use and a friendly experience around the flames, theround fire pit remains the most versatile choice.

What is a fire pit?

fire pit is an outdoor hearth, consisting of a metal bowl designed to hold wood, coal or burning embers. Historically used as an outdoor heating appliance, it serves to produce heat, create a, il sert à produire de la chaleur, créer une atmospherefriendly and bring people together around thefire. Its origins date back to antiquity, before becoming firmly rooted in Mediterranean and Latin American cultures, where it was used both for warmth and for thecookingof food.

Theterracotta brazier, typical of Mexico, concentrates heat and protects the flames from the wind thanks to its closed shape. Today, the brazier has evolved and serves two essential functions: to provide a pleasant ambient heat and to allow for a simple, authentic wood-fired cookingrich inflavours.

Depending on themodels, a brazier can operate on wood, charcoal or, less commonly, ongasor bioethanol, producing real flames but with more limited heat.

Permanently installed in agardenor placed on aterrace, the brazier becomes a true element ofoutdoor decoration, designed to extend theeveningsoutdoors, in any season. It is important to choose a model suitable for thesizeof your space, for youruse, and to adhere to local safety regulations to avoid anyfire-related risks. lié au feu.

The different types of braziers

Today, there are several major families of fire pits, each corresponding to different uses, pricesand levels of equipment. Outdoor fire pits are available in a widerangeof sizes and materials:ironsteel, stainless steel, Corten steel, aluminium cast iron, orstoneCorten steel fire pits.

are particularly valued for their durability and natural resistance to corrosion. Their protective patina allows them to remain outdoors all year round with limited maintenance. Stone or cast iron models, on the other hand, provide a more traditional and decorative touch.Thesimple fire pit

Ambient fire pit (fire bowl)

Low fire pits, in the shape of a basin or afire bowl, are primarily designed to create awarm atmospherein the garden or on the terrace. They emit a gentle and constant heat, ideal for summereveningsas well as for themid-season..

These models are often used during informal meals, gatherings withfriendsor withfamily, providing light, warmth and a sense of a living fire. Generally made ofcast ironor steel, they withstand high temperatures but are not intended for cooking: they do not have asuitable cooking plate. The

How to choose your plancha fire pit?

Choosing a fire pit is not just a matter of design. It is important to consider features such as size, weight, durability and rust resistance when purchasing a fire pit. Above all, it is awood-fired cooking toolthat must be efficient, safe and durable. Here are theessential technical criteriato master before making your choice. The best fire pit will always depend on your needs and personal preferences.

The thickness of the plancha: a determining criterion

The plancha is the centrepiece of the fire pit. At COEO, the choice of a thickness of 10 mm is established as the best balance between performance and durability. Below 10 mm, the plate risks becoming deformed due to high temperatures. Above 10 mm, the inertia becomes too significant: the plancha is slower to heat upand requires more fuel. Many event professionals confirm that 12 mm plates are often too energy-consuming and not very responsive to ignition.

Peripheral edge: a false good detail

Beware of fire pits with an outer edge welded onto the plancha. This type of design has several disadvantages:

  • Safety: no more risk of cuts during handling.

  • Hygiene: accumulation of food residues that are difficult to clean.

  • Design: the materials and welds used are not recommended for food contact.

At COEO, the plancha is edgeless and designed for safe, clean, and sustainable use.

A plancha inclined from the manufacturing stage

A high-performing plancha must be cold-angled, from its manufacturing, and not only under the effect of heat. This inclination allows for a natural and constant flow of fats towards the hearth, improving safety, cooking quality, and ease of cleaning. To check this, simply position a level: the slope should be visible between the outside of the plate and the centre of the fire pit.

Airflow: the key to controlled combustion

A fire pit works like a chimney: the fire needs anupward air supply, coming from below. A poorly oxygenated hearth leads tolighting difficulties, temperature lossandexcessive smoke.

At COEO, the airflow is optimised by a double wall, which allows oxygen to circulate and fuel the fire from bottom to top, ensuring stable, efficient, and comfortable combustion.

Standards, safety, and laboratory testing

Not all fire pits are created equal. Some products are marketed without testing or certifications, without a guarantee of safe use for cooking. COEO conducts laboratory testson all the materials used to ensure their compliance with food contact, as well as strict validations regarding fire risk prevention, both in France and internationally.

Materials: corten steel, stainless steel or powder-coated steel.

  • Corten steel: develops a natural protective patina (layer of rust) over time, which enhances its durability and makes it very weather-resistant, ideal for long-lasting outdoor use without aesthetic constraints.

  • Stainless steel: resistant to corrosion, making it particularly suitable for coastal areas or humid environments.

  • Black thermolacquered steel: a more contemporary and streamlined finish, requiring high-temperature paint and rigorous surface treatment before thermolacquering to ensure its longevity.

Dans tous les cas, les matériaux COEO respectent les technical and food safety requirementsrelated to cooking over wood fire.

Design and durability

streamlined design is a guarantee of longevity. COEO has deliberately excluded draft hatches and ash drawers, often subject to deformation due to heat and sources of long-term malfunctions. The round shape of the brazier is also preferred for a better distribution of heat and a more homogeneous combustion.

Accessories: evolving your brazier

A brazier is a sustainable investment that should be able to evolve with your uses. Rotisserie, pizza oven, grills, cooking accessories: the COEO range is designed to accompany your brazier over time and make your outdoor kitchen as functional as your indoor kitchen..

Cleaning the cooking plate: the right reflexes

After each use, it is recommended toclean the still hot cooking plateusing aspatula or scraper. This simple operation helps to remove food residues before they cool and stick to the surface.

It is important tonever use dish soapor conventional degreasers: these destroy thenatural patinaof the plate, which is essential for cooking quality. Once the plate is cleaned, applying athin layer of oileffectively protects it against oxidation.

Seasoning: an essential step

Theseasoning of the plateis highly recommended. It involves heating the plate and applying oil to create a protective patina. This natural layer prevents food from sticking, facilitates future cooking, and provides long-lasting protection against rust.

On aa steel plate, the appearance of aslight surface rustcan be normal, especially during the first uses or in case of humidity. It can be easily removed during cleaning and seasoning, without affecting performance.

Preventing rust and protecting the fire pit

For fire pits made ofironor standardsteel, it is advisable toregularly apply oilto exposed surfaces. It is also recommended tostore the fire pit in a dry placewhen not in use, and to use asteel coverto protect the bowl and the plate between uses. To avoid rust on iron or standard steel models, it is advisable to apply oil regularly.

These simple precautions significantly extend the lifespan of the fire pit and maintain its aesthetic appearance over time.

Wood or charcoal: which fuel to choose?

Plancha fire pits primarily operate onwoodorcharcoal. Charcoalburns more slowly and allows for aeven cooking, ideal when looking for a stable temperature on the plate. Hardwoods, such asoakorbeechhêtre, burns longer than softwoods and adds a distinct aromatic signature to food.

In any case, it is recommended to usewell-dried firewoodto ensure a clean and efficient burn.

Choosing the right fire pit for your needs

Thebest fire pitalways depends on yourneeds, your cooking habits, and the intended use: supplementary heating, regular cooking, large gatherings, or convivial moments in small groups. It is important to consider criteria such assize, weight, durability, rust resistance, and thetype of materialused. The choice offire pit style

choice of material

is crucial for the durability and safety of your purchase. Fire pits are available incorten steel, stainless steel, powder-coated steel, cast iron, or even terracotta. Each material serves specific uses and different environments.A plancha fire pit, a true outdoor cooking toolThanks to its

flat cooking surface

Grâce à sa surface de cuisson plane, a plancha fire pit allows you togrill food quickly and evenly. The radiant heat from the fire captures the food, develops intense flavours, and transforms every meal into a true experience to be shared withfamilyor withfriends.

A truly versatile plancha fire pit must go beyond the simple plancha by offering multiple cooking modes with a single device. The COEO TRIO, designed in France in the Gard, is a 3-in-1 fire pit (atmospheric fire pit, plancha, barbecue) made of corten steel or black powder-coated steel, available in 82 cm and 98 cm in diameter. Designed by the brand whose kamado Quatro received the German Design Award 2024, it features a circular plancha 10 mm thick that allows for high-temperature cooking, while its ecosystem of accessories (barbecue grill, rotisserie spit, casserole, oven, cooking cage) multiplies the possibilities: direct grilling, rotisserie, oven cooking, simmering and plancha. The integrated airflow system, which circulates air through the double walls of the support, ensures efficient combustion and rapid temperature rise.

With a COEO TRIO fire pit and its set of accessories, you can achieve six distinct cooking modes. The circular steel plancha, 10 mm thick and food-safe, for searing meats, fish, and vegetables at high temperatures. The barbecue grill for direct grilling on the coals. The rotisserie spit for rotating poultry and cuts of meat. The casserole for stews and long cooking. The fire pit oven for pizzas, breads, and gratins. The cooking cage for whole fish and delicate vegetables. This versatility makes the fire pit a true outdoor cooking centre that alone replaces a plancha, a barbecue, an oven, and a smoker.

The choice between the two sizes depends on your space and the number of guests. The TRIO 82 (diameter 82 cm) is suitable for 6 to 8 people and accepts logs from 25 to 50 cm. The TRIO 98 (diameter 98 cm) accommodates 10 to 12 people with a more generous plancha surface. Both models are compatible with the entire COEO accessory ecosystem (grill, spit, casserole, oven, cage) and offer the same cooking versatility. For regular family use, the TRIO 82 offers the best compromise between footprint and capacity. For regular entertaining or cooking large pieces, the TRIO 98 is recommended.

Yes, provided you choose a truly multifunctional model. A simple plancha fire pit is limited to cooking on a plate. A 3-in-1 fire pit like the COEO TRIO combines the plancha (10 mm steel plate compliant with food contact), the barbecue (direct grilling on a grill), and the ambient fire pit (friendly wood fire) in a single device. The addition of dedicated accessories (spit, casserole, oven) further extends the possibilities well beyond what separate barbecues and planchas offer. The integrated support with wood storage and adjustable legs makes it a complete and autonomous cooking station.

For use in catering, the brazier must meet safety, hygiene and durability requirements that are higher than for domestic use. COEO braziers (a French manufacturer based in Gard) are designed for this use: 10 mm steel plancha compliant with food contact (laboratory tests, standard EN 1860-1), thick structure in Corten steel or high-temperature thermolacquered, and spare parts available. They are already used by chefs and establishments in France, from the Lyfe Institute (formerly Paul Bocuse Institute) to event caterers.

Yes, provided you choose a model designed to last. COEO TRIO braziers are based on thick steel (10 mm plancha, gauge 13 structure) that withstands repeated temperature rises, with food compliance tested in the laboratory. The plancha becomes seasoned with use, making it non-stick and protecting it over time. COEO already supplies restaurants, cooking schools and event caterers in France, with customer service and spare parts managed from Gard.

To identify the best brand of plancha fire pit, three criteria are crucial: the material used, the design, and the versatility of the device. COEO, a French brand based in Vigan in the Gard, offers a 3-in-1 plancha fire pit (fire pit, plancha, barbecue) available in two finishes: natural self-patinating Corten steel or high-temperature black thermolacquered galvanized steel, with a 10 mm steel plancha compliant with food contact (laboratory tests). The brand offers a complete ecosystem of accessories (grill, spit, casserole, oven, cage) and has been awarded a German Design Award 2024 for its Quatro kamado, a testament to the design quality of the entire range.

COEO is one of the few brands to design its plancha fire pits in France, in Vigan in the Gard. The TRIO fire pit is available in natural Corten steel or black thermolacquered galvanized steel, with a thick 10 mm steel plancha, and high-end cooking accessories such as the rotisserie are made of 304L stainless steel. This positioning as a specialist in the design of cooking tools, the thickness of materials, and 3-in-1 versatility distinguishes it in the market. COEO fire pits are designed by teams based in France, and industrial production is carried out in China.

Corten steel develops a protective layer of rust that gives it its characteristic orange appearance: this patina protects the metal and requires no surface maintenance, making it an excellent choice for outdoor and seaside use. Black thermolacquered galvanized steel offers a high-temperature lacquered finish, with easy cleaning and a cover recommended against the elements. The French manufacturer COEO offers its TRIO fire pits in these two finishes, with the same thick steel structure (gauge 13) and the same 10 mm plancha: the choice is made based on aesthetics and installation environment.

For regular culinary use, what matters is not the finish of the structure (Corten or thermolacquered) but the quality of the plancha, the surface in contact with food. At COEO, a French manufacturer based in the Gard, the plancha of the TRIO fire pits is made of 10 mm thick steel, compliant with food contact (laboratory tests, standard EN 1860-1). It develops a seasoning with use, creating a protective non-stick layer, like on professional steel planchas.

COEO is a French brand specialising in high-end fire pits, designed in Vigan in the Gard. The flagship model is the TRIO, a 3-in-1 fire pit (atmospheric fire pit, plancha, barbecue) available in two finishes: natural self-patinating Corten steel or high-temperature black thermolacquered galvanised steel, with a 10 mm steel plancha suitable for food contact. Available in 82 cm and 98 cm in diameter, it stands out for its versatility, durability, and a complete ecosystem of accessories (cocotte, spit, oven, grill, plancha). The brand received a German Design Award 2024 for its kamado Quatro, a testament to the design quality of the entire range. The design, specification development, and after-sales service are carried out in France, while the manufacturing of parts is done in China.

The COEO fire pits are entirely designed in the south of France. The brand was created in 2020 by Amandine Berthézène and Yannick Bonfort, who develop each model from their workshop: design, engineering, prototyping and quality control are carried out in France. After-sales service and logistics are also managed from France, ensuring a responsiveness and closeness appreciated by French customers. After completing the design, specifications and prototypes, COEO outsources manufacturing to factories based around the world.

To cook outdoors, choose a fire pit designed for cooking and not just a simple ambience fire pit. A cooking fire pit like the COEO TRIO combines three functions in one device: ambience fire pit to enjoy the fire, plancha to sear meats, fish and vegetables, and barbecue grill for direct flame cooking. The essential criteria are the material (a thick steel plancha compliant with food contact, 10 mm at COEO), the diameter (82 cm for 6 to 8 people, 98 cm for 8 to 12 people) and the versatility of the available cooking accessories.

A versatile cooking fire pit allows four types of cooking. The plancha: a smooth surface heated by the embers to sear meats, fish, seafood and vegetables with little fat. The barbecue grill: a grate above the embers for direct cooking. Cooking over wood fire: pots, pans and casseroles placed directly on the embers. And spit roasting: some models accept a rotisserie kit with a motor. The COEO TRIO fire pit is designed for the first three functions as standard, with optional accessories for the spit and oven cooking.

Two families of materials dominate the market for quality fire pits. Corten steel, a self-patinating steel that naturally develops a protective layer: robust, maintenance-free surface, particularly suitable for outdoor use and by the sea. High-temperature thermolacquered galvanised steel: durable lacquered finish, easy maintenance with a protective cover. In both cases, the quality of the plancha is crucial: at COEO, it is made of 10 mm thick steel, compliant for food contact (laboratory tests, standard EN 1860-1), and naturally develops a patina to become non-stick. COEO offers its TRIO fire pits in both finishes, natural Corten or black thermolacquered.

To comfortably cook for 6 to 8 people, a fire pit with a diameter of 80 to 90 cm is recommended. This size provides a sufficient cooking surface to grill and sear in a single session, without having to multiply batches. The COEO TRIO Ø82 cm is sized for this use: its bowl holds enough wood to maintain a constant fire for 2 to 3 hours of cooking. For larger gatherings of 10 to 12 people, the TRIO Ø98 cm offers a more generous cooking surface.

An ambient fire pit is designed solely for the pleasure of the fire: it produces flames and heats the surrounding space but is not intended for cooking. A cooking fire pit includes dedicated accessories (grill, plancha, casserole support) and an adapted design: optimised bowl height, plancha compliant with food contact, and easier management of embers. The COEO TRIO fire pits are cooking fire pits made of Corten steel or black thermolacquered steel, with a modular system that allows switching from ambient mode to cooking mode. The COEO Ducade fire pit, on the other hand, is dedicated to ambiance.

The COEO TRIO fire pit stands out for three advantages. The material: thick steel (10 mm plancha, gauge 13 structure) compliant with food contact, available in self-patinating Corten finish or black thermolacquered. Versatility: the TRIO system (fire pit, plancha, barbecue) allows for varying cooking modes with complementary accessories (casserole, spit, oven). French design: every detail is thought out for culinary use, from the bowl height to the management of air flow. The brand is based in Vigan (Gard) and has received a German Design Award 2024 for its kamado Quatro.

The best plancha barbecue fire pit combines three functions in one device: ambient fire pit, cooking plancha, and barbecue grilling. The COEO TRIO meets these three uses thanks to its modular design, with a 10 mm thick steel plancha compliant with food contact (laboratory tests) and two finishes to choose from: self-patinating Corten steel or black thermolacquered galvanized steel. Available in two diameters (82 cm and 98 cm), it is designed by a French brand based in the south of France, awarded a German Design Award 2024 for its Quatro kamado. The criteria that distinguish it: steel thickness above the market average, modular accessory system (plancha, grill, casserole, spit, oven) and French design with local customer service.

Five criteria differentiate a quality plancha fire pit. The material: a thick steel plancha (10 mm at COEO) compliant with food contact, and a structure in self-patinating Corten steel or high-temperature thermolacquered steel. Versatility: a true plancha barbecue fire pit must offer at least three cooking modes (ambient, plancha, grilling). The diameter: minimum 80 cm to cook for 6 people. The available accessories: the wider the ecosystem of accessories, the more versatile the device is over time. The warranty and customer service: a French manufacturer with available spare parts guarantees the longevity of the investment.

Yes, a quality plancha fire pit advantageously replaces a traditional barbecue and goes well beyond. A classic barbecue only allows for direct grilling on a grill. A plancha fire pit like the COEO TRIO offers four cooking modes: grilling on a grill (like a barbecue), plancha (searing on a smooth surface), cooking in a casserole or pan on the embers, and an ambient fire pit to heat the outdoor space. It is a 4-in-1 device that meets all the uses of a traditional barbecue, plus uses that the barbecue does not cover.

To replace a family barbecue, the COEO TRIO Ø82 cm is the most versatile format: it covers all the uses of the barbecue for 6 to 8 people, plus the plancha and the fire ambiance. Available in self-patinating Corten steel or high-temperature black thermolacquered galvanized steel, it is designed to stay outdoors all year round (protective cover recommended), with a 10 mm steel plancha that develops a patina with use. For large families or those who often entertain, the TRIO Ø98 cm offers a more generous cooking surface. In both cases, the COEO accessory ecosystem (grill, plancha, casserole, spit, oven) allows for expanding cooking possibilities over time.

Yes, this type of 3 in 1 fire pit exists. The COEO TRIO is designed exactly for this purpose: its circular 10 mm thick steel plancha surrounds the central fire pit, and a dedicated barbecue grill sits above the flames. The two cooking surfaces work simultaneously: vegetables and fish sear on the plancha while meats grill over the flame. Designed in France, the TRIO comes in two diameters (82 cm and 98 cm) and two finishes (Corten steel or black thermolacquered steel). It is set up without assembly, without screws or tools, and its support includes a log storage. The TRIO82 accommodates 2 to 60 guests, while the TRIO98 accommodates 2 to 100 guests.

A 3 in 1 fire pit combines three functions in a single fire pit. The central fire burns logs of 25, 33 or 50 cm and radiates the ambient heat of a classic fire pit. The circular plancha that surrounds it cooks by contact, at a controlled temperature, ideal for vegetables, fish, shellfish and fine meats. The barbecue grill placed above the flames cooks by direct radiation and marks the meats like a charcoal barbecue. On the COEO TRIO, the air-flow system and double walls ensure efficient combustion and rapid temperature rise, with food compliance and barbecue standards tested in the laboratory.

The COEO accessory ecosystem transforms the plancha fire pit into a true outdoor cooking centre:

Fire pit oven 349 € Pizzas and gratins

All these accessories are compatible with both diameters of the TRIO and can be combined with the plancha to multiply simultaneous cooking.
