What is a grill for a brazier used for?
The brazier grill allows you to transform a simple heating brazier into a true wood fire cooking tool. It makes it a versatile piece of equipment, capable of replacing a traditional barbecue while offering a more authentic and friendly experience.
With a suitable grill, you can grill meats, fish, vegetables or seafood, all while enjoying the unique taste brought by the flames and embers. Cooking over a brazier thus becomes a complete culinary experience, ideal for outdoor evenings and moments of sharing.
Depending on your needs, a grill for a brazier allows for three main types of cooking:
- direct cooking, for quickly searing food,
- plancha cooking, for fine and varied cuisine,
- high cooking, for better heat control.
Each solution enhances your fire pit and makes it a true centre of outdoor conviviality.
The different types of grills for fire pits
Today there are several types of grills, each catering to specific uses: direct cooking for classic grilling, plancha for more precise and versatile cooking, or a high grill on a tripod or low position in a fall prevention barrier to cook over the coals like on a classic barbecue.
Direct cooking grill
The classic fire pit grill is positioned directly above the fire. This is the most common use for grilling meats, fish, and vegetables in direct contact with the intense heat.
The COEO steel grill (Ref. GD82 or GD98) offers:
- a good rise in temperature,
- excellent heat retention,
- even cooking.
The choice of diameter is essential to perfectly fit the fire pit and ensure an even distribution of heat.
Plancha for fire pit
The plancha for brazier is located on the brazier's hearth. It is provided as standard and is essential for diversifying uses and meeting the expectations of customers seeking versatility. There is also an accessory that allows adding a plancha area above the fire. This solid plate, made of cast iron, is positioned directly on the tripod of the brazier grill TRIO 98 (Ref. GD98) or above the hearth.
Designed for flat cooking, it allows you to easily prepare:
seafood,
vegetables,
eggs,
fine meats
or even pancakes
This cast iron plancha is included as standard in the oven for the brazier. Designed to offer excellent thermal inertia, it allows for even and controlled cooking.
This plancha can be used with the tripod support of the TRIO98 grill (ref. GD98), provided you have the right equipment. Indeed, for brazier with a diameter of 82 cm, this option is not available: it is essential to use the specific support of the brazier oven.
With the appropriate support, this cast iron plancha integrates perfectly with your existing fire pit. Its installation is simple and quick, without complex assembly. Its shape and weight have been designed to ensure optimal stability and safe use, even in high heat conditions.
Multi-height cooking and complementary accessories
Discover our range of modular grills for fire pits and barbecues, designed to combine several types of cooking at different heights and offer a complete culinary experience over wood fire.
The raised tripod grill (Ref. GD82 or GD98) is an essential element for controlled cooking. Usable at two different heights, it allows you to sear pieces directly above the flames or to keep already cooked food warm while continuing to manage your fire. Very useful during long cooking sessions and multiple preparations, it also provides a real safety advantage. Easy to install, it can be set up without tools thanks to its clever design. Versatile, it can also accommodate small pots to keep your preparations warm.
Our system also includes a grill with a removable central part, specially designed to be positioned in the barrier of the fire pit. This modularity allows for easy switching between direct, indirect, or central cooking, depending on your needs and desires.
For a friendly and spectacular cooking experience, discover the Brazilian Churrasco set. This device allows you to cook Churrasco skewers to perfection, while integrating a central wok to simultaneously prepare stir-fried dishes, vegetables, or seafood. An ideal solution to vary the pleasures around the fire.
Finally, the suspended cooking cage opens up even more possibilities by allowing multiple grills to be stacked. For example, combine the 98 cm grill and the 82 cm grill to create cumulative cooking at different heat levels, ideal for managing multiple ingredients at the same time with precision.
Thanks to this equipment, you benefit from a complete modular cooking system for fire pits, combining performance, versatility, and conviviality, perfectly suited for barbecue, grilling, and high-end outdoor cooking enthusiasts.
How to choose your fire pit grill?
The size and diameter
The diameter of the grill must correspond to the inner diameter of the fire pit, with a format chosen also according to the actual need in number of guests and cooking surface. At COEO, the GD82 grill (usable diameter 39 cm) fits the TRIO 82 cm fire pit, rated for 2 to 60 guests, and the GD98 grill (usable diameter 50 cm) fits the TRIO 98 cm, rated for 2 to 100 guests. Before purchase, check compatibility with your fire pit model, as well as with the ring or support if your equipment has one, to ensure a good fit.
Materials: steel, stainless steel or cast iron
Which material to choose for a fire pit grill: carbon steel or cast iron?
The choice of fire pit grill material is crucial for cooking quality, heat distribution and food results. At COEO, we have prioritised materials suitable for wood fire cooking, deliberately excluding stainless steel for this specific use.
Carbon steel for brazier grill: advantages for reactive and controlled cooking
Carbon steel for brazier grill is recognised for its excellent performance in wood fire cooking:
Rapid temperature rise: ideal for quickly searing meats, fish and vegetables
Optimal grilling marks: perfect Maillard reaction for intense flavours
High thermal responsiveness: immediately adapts to variations in the fire
Versatile cooking: suitable for direct and indirect cooking
Robustness and longevity: especially with a strong thickness
L’acier carbone est le choix idéal pour une cuisson dynamique au brasero, offrant contrôle et précision.
Cast iron for fire pit grill: advantages for even cooking and high inertia
Cast iron for fire pit cooking grill is particularly suitable for slow and even cooking:
Excellent thermal inertia: retains heat for a long time
Gentle and even diffusion: limits temperature variations
Perfect for large pieces: thick meats or long cooking times
Very good caramelisation thanks to thermal stability
Cast iron is suitable for those seeking uniform and stable cooking on the brasero.

Why stainless steel is not suitable for a brasero grill over wood fire
Unlike other uses, stainless steel for brasero grills has significant limitations:
Heat too localised: poor distribution on the cooking surface
Low thermal inertia: does not retain heat sufficiently
Uneven cooking over wood fire: difficult to control on brasero
For these reasons, stainless steel is not chosen for cooking on the brasero, as it does not allow for even and effective heat diffusion.
Brazier or kamado compatibility
Brazier grill and kamado compatibility: choose wisely according to your equipment
Before purchasing a cooking grill, it is essential to check compatibility with your equipment. Brazier or kamado, each system has its specifics, and a poorly suited grill can impact cooking, safety, and durability.

Why choose a COEO grill?
Choosing a COEO fire pit grill means opting for equipment designed to last and perform in demanding cooking conditions. Without marketing hype, the difference lies in concrete elements: materials, design, and real-world use, both by professionals and passionate individuals.
A thick steel designed for high temperatures
COEO grills stand out for their design in thick black steel of 10 mm for the central part, combined with a high-temperature black thermolacquered tripod. This technical choice meets the specific constraints of wood fire cooking.
Resistance to repeated high temperatures: the significant thickness limits deformations related to intense heating cycles
Thermal stability: the grill maintains a uniform temperature across its entire surface
Durability over time: suitable for regular and prolonged use
Formation of a natural patina: over time, the steel develops a protection that enhances its resistance and contributes to the cooking result
This design is positioned in a high-end market, where performance relies on real technical characteristics, adapted to the constraints of the fire pit.
A quality used by chefs and professionals
COEO equipment – fire pits, kamados and cooking grills – are used in demanding contexts:
Professional chefs
Culinary schools
Restaurants, including Michelin-starred ones
Event professionals
This field use ensures that the products meet high standards of reliability, cooking precision and robustness.
Despite this level of demand, COEO grills remain accessible to passionate individuals, who seek high-performance equipment for regular or social use.
To remember:
Thick 10 mm steel suitable for high temperatures
Design thought out for real and repeated use
Equipment used by culinary professionals
Performance accessible to demanding users
Maintenance and longevity of your fire pit grill
A good fire pit grill is designed to last, regardless of the type of cooking practiced (direct, indirect, or multi-level with a ring). With a few simple gestures, you can easily extend its performance and lifespan, without technical constraints or complex maintenance.
Maintenance tips according to the type of grill and material
Each type of grill requires appropriate maintenance to ensure optimal cooking and avoid any degradation over time.
Steel grill (carbon steel)
Before the first use, it is recommended to season it:
- Apply a thin layer of cooking oil
- Gradually heat the grill
After each use:
- Allow to cool naturally (never pour hot water on it)
- Simply clean with newspaper or a soft brush
- Apply a thin layer of protective oil
- Store in a dry place, protected, removing the grill from the ring if necessary
With these simple gestures, the grill develops a natural protective patina. There is nothing complicated, but this ritual makes all the difference over time.
Stainless steel grill
- Cleaning with a soft brush and mild soap
- Avoid abrasive products
Stainless steel requires little maintenance, but is less suitable for certain uses in the fire pit.
Cast iron grill
- Dry well after washing
- Lightly oil after each use
An essential step to repeat every time (every time / each use) to prevent rust and preserve its properties.
Lifespan of a fire pit grill
A well-maintained fire pit grill can last several seasons without loss of performance. The frequency of use, the type of cooking, and the storage conditions will naturally influence its longevity.
COEO grills, designed from thick 10 mm steel, offer superior resistance to repeated high heat, especially when used on a fire pit ring or for prolonged cooking. This thickness limits deformation and ensures stability over time.
To maximise lifespan:
- Store the grill in a dry place
- Remove it from the ring after use if exposed outdoors
- Use a suitable protective cover
- Avoid repeated thermal shocks
With regular maintenance, there is nothing more to do to keep a grill performing well, even after many seasons of use.
To remember:
- Simple maintenance is sufficient, regardless of the type of grill
- Seasoning is essential for steel
- The thickness (10 mm) greatly improves longevity
- Use with a ring and suitable storage = optimised lifespan
